Weeknote 180
House viewing of a different kind
- Shared the results of an internal accessibility support survey with my manager this week. Nothing particularly surprising in the findings, but hopefully having some data to back things up will help make the case for positive change.
- Deeply saddened by yet another horrific train crash in Spain last week. I've never travelled on a high-speed train in Spain and whilst it hasn't entirely put me off going one day, it does raise some questions and hesitation about planning a trip by train there one day. I hope there's a thorough and transparent investigation, focused on establishing the facts and identifying the underlying causes, rather than descending into a blame game searching for a scapegoat.
- Volunteered for AbilityNet again last week, helping an older lady who had lost her iPhone set up her new one from scratch, including getting used to the lack of a home button and setting up Face ID. For the first time received a nice thank-you message after closing the support ticket.
- At the weekend, joined Mena for a visit to Kensington's postmodern Cosmic House, after months of waiting to get our hands on a much-coveted ticket. A pleasant and relaxing experience in the autumnal colours, taking in the very best of architectural splendour – a world away from our usual experience of viewing homes while house hunting. Often looking around much smaller, overpriced properties in zone 3, in need of renovation and in varying states of untidiness.
