Weeknote 169

  • Picked up my new laptop for work at the office this week. A new MacBook Pro, but with much more restrictive settings and a throttled internet connection that's constantly monitored and filtered.
  • Ventured out to my old university in West London on Thursday evening to visit Made in Brunel Graduate Showcase. A shadow of its former self, with a just a single space on campus of mostly domestic students showcasing their work. No longer in a Central London venue and no longer a packed schedule of talks from the design industry and alumni. Thanks Brexit and thanks astronomical tuition fees for all students.
  • Saturday went to the V&A East Museum with Mena to look around the recently opened gallery (not the same as the V&A East Storehouse). It's relatively small compared to the main gallery in South Kensington, but modern, interesting and very well curated. We wandered through the Olympic Park afterward, now fully grown in with trees and greenery, so different from fourteen years ago when I was there during the London 2012 Paralympics.
  • It was another good Sunday for cycling. I took the train to Hitchin and cycled about 40 kilometres north to near Bedford to see from afar the Cardington Sheds once used for airships, before I rode over to The Cowshed for coffee and cake, near Sandy.
