Weeknote 155

Operation

  • After more than a year since the diagnosis, I finally had my hernia operation last week. It was my first time going under general anaesthetic, but I managed to stay calm right up until I walked into the operating theatre.
  • It was a surreal shift, going from the quiet little waiting room where I’d spent the whole morning downstairs to the upper floor where everything was loud, busy, and in constant motion around the operating theatres.
  • Everything went well, I came round in the ward to a kind Filipino nurse looking after me, and I was back home by the evening.
  • I’m off work for a week to recover, taking things slowly so I don’t undo any of the progress. Thankfully they used a glue stitch, so it’s healing quickly.
  • On the streaming front, I’ve started following a new channel about life on the canals in Britain, sparked by the breach that made international news last December. It’s been surprisingly comforting to see familiar parts of the north west and the canals I used to wander along as a kid.
