Weeknote 126

Visit to a new Chilean restaurant in London

  • The office was somewhat more busy than usual on Wednesday with switch on of GOV.UK new branding. Things seemed to have gone fairly smoothly so far, but it's still unclear how it will perform across all sites where it hasn't yet been rolled out yet, and how it will ultimately be received by the public.
  • Temperature dipped slightly to a more comfortable level here in London, but returned to unbearable by the weekend. I joined Mena and her friends to try a new Chilean restaurant near Oxford Street called Mareida. Thankfully the place was air-conditioned, and we were able to enjoy some exquisitely presented specialities from Chile, including my favourite, Chupe de Jaiba, which is a pie made of crab meat, onion, and cheese among other things!
  • Continuing the Chilean theme on Sunday, I went for a short and easy ride to Paddington with Luis for a Chilean breakfast at Harrison's Café, before the temperature soared past 28 degrees.
  • I wasn’t particularly impressed with this year’s Glasto coverage. I caught a bit of Caribou’s live set before calling it an early night, but was disappointed to find it unavailable on catch-up afterwards.
  • Off to watch Le Tour in northern France next weekend, and busy preparing for that, so no notes next weekend.
  • I spent the rest of Sunday much like I would on a rainy day—staying indoors because the heat made it unbearable outside. I made some good progress updating my website to work with the latest version of Kirby, which involved a fair bit of time digging into code solutions using both ChatGPT and Copilot.
