Weeknote 121

BTconf and unexpected border inspection

  • Continuing from last week's note I was in Düsseldorf for Beyond Tellerrand conference. More on that in another post I'm in the process of writing.
  • The journey back from Düsseldorf was somewhat delayed but still with time to spare in Brussels Midi station to visit my favourite cafe there, Exki.
  • Unexpectedly, at check-in for my Eurostar back to London, the UK Border Force officer asked me aside to look at my Irish passport before I proceeded to the e-Gates. After lightly scrutinising me about where I lived, my occupation, the purpose of my trip and of my visit to Chile last year, he let me go.
  • I spent the last few days of this weekend looking after Bagheera the cat at Mena's home in North London while she was away on a trip.
  • I've been busy preparing slides over the weekend for a presentation I'm giving next week on accessibility for Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
  • Sunday I joined my friend Luis for a train ride north to cover some new ground cycling in Cambridgeshire. We stopped off for coffee and cakes at a cyclists' café in the countryside called, Spoke Cycles. Some great roads in that part of the country with relatively few potholes compared to London, Surrey and Sussex.
