Weeknote 120
Return to Düsseldorf
- Last week, temperatures in London soared to nearly 30 degrees, creating ideal post-work riding conditions on Tuesday. I joined Luis for a scenic 50 km loop to the picturesque Shepperton Lock. Coincidentally, we both ran into technical troubles—Luis suffered a puncture, while I discovered a loose screw on my GPS mount, which almost sent my pricey Garmin flying off the bike.
- Thursday I went to a new meetup in town called Interface. I stuck around for the first two talks, one of which was an excellent presentation by Miranda Kuyk on web accessibility.
- Saturday I joined Mena for a delicious Mexican lunch at El Pastor in King's Cross before I headed off to Germany by train.
- Ahead of Beyond Tellerrand conference, my train journey to Düsseldorf involved a change of trains at Brussels and Aachen. No delays thankfully and I joined my friend Dave in the restaurant car for our first experience of onboard dining on a German train. Microwaved currywurst and fries with a wheat beer might not sound that appealing, but kept hunger astray for the longish journey by land rather than flying.
- At the hotel, we ran into my old friend Tantek who encouraged us to come along to the IndieWebCamp on Sunday. Fortunately, I had my laptop with me—and a long list of personal website improvements that had been waiting for attention for months, if not years!
- IndieWebCamp was once again hosted at Sipgate in Düsseldorf, but this time in a more intimate section of the building—formerly a pub. The space, recently vacated, still held onto its bar, classic pub furnishings, a dartboard, and a pool table.
